Bicycle Wreck at White Rock Lake

Usually is a peaceful weekend when riding at White Rock Lake.   This is the largest park in all of DFW and takes up 14 miles of bike riding trails that go around this very picturesque park.  Sometime we just go to hang out at the park or walk a few miles.  The kids like to play catch or catch frogs at the lakes borders or ride their bicycles.

However, occaionally we see something disturbing.  Such was the case this weekend when we watched one of our favorite bikes go down in a crash.  LIke motorcyclists most bicyclist aren't the cause of the crash but the victim of another driver or pedastrian that doesn't pay attention.  Such was the case here.

On the South end of the park is a large crossing bridge (near the dog park portion of the park) and usually it doesn't pose a hazard.  However, thanks to poor construction it is sometimes hard to see pedastrians about to step onto the bridge and such was the case here.  Just as a lady on a
7 Speed Beach Cruiser came whirling across the bridge a pedastrian stepped out from the shadows.  The bicyclist slammed on her brakes but it was to late and the collision sent both spiraling across the ground.  It was awful.

Now I can tell you that had the bicyclist been wearing a
Helmet the accident would not have been nearly as bad.  Remember Bicycle Safety must always come first.
